autumn exhales a deep breath
as feeble leaves lose their grip
whispering sweet farewells
to nurturing limbs
I watch them cradle-rock
to the pulse of Mother Earth’s song
silently sweeping, weeping
but bravely repelling
the magnet of years past
finding new ways to grow
It’s Quadrille Monday at dVerse Poets Pub.
Write a poem of 44 words not including the title, including the word “magnet”.
De is our host.
We are there with the leaves falling already… I am hopeful for the new growth coming from death.
This is incredibly beautiful, Mish! 💝 Such resilience in those closing lines. There is much to learn from Autumn.
“bravely repelling
the magnet of years past
finding new ways to grow”
So much to learn from the trees, YES! This is just wonderful, Mish.
I so love our autumn bed of leaves. I like the hopeful ending, finding new ways to grow.
I love the wordplay I the title, Mish! My belief is in leaves and trees. Autumn has certainly been exhaling in our garden and Mojo is having fun chasing leaves. She hasn’t seen the squirrel yet, which has been climbing out apple tree and digging beneath it. I hope she doesn’t chase it. My favourite lines:
‘I watch them cradle-rock
to the pulse of Mother Earth’s song’.
I love how you give sentience and loving relationship between the trees and the leaves. The soothing cradle rock as they fall is so beautiful.
I love these lines, they are so enchanting:
“to nurturing limbs
I watch them cradle-rock
to the pulse of Mother Earth’s song”
Such a beauty, this piece. Eloquently penned and visceral. ❤
Autumn gets the d’Verse nod out on the trail tonight. That and lust. Fall preens and prances amongst your wonderful wordplay.
Lovely images here – the leaves cradle-rocking, the promise of new life. Autumn looks like the end, but it’s really the beginning.
I like this, pushing against gravity to grow. It does seem like that, watching the way the leaves fall then rise again in the wind, and the shoots pushing up beneath them. Nicely observed.
autumn exhales a deep breath
as feeble leaves lose their grip
whispering sweet farewells
to nurturing limbs
This is a really great description. Reminds me of all those who have passed on in this pandemic we have floating around us.
Autumn personified and wise… you had me with the first line “autumn exhales a deep breath” I can see it and hear it.
I think I heard that breath today while I was out walking! This is lovely.
I love the thought of ‘finding new ways to grow’- we all need that at times.
Clever title! I be leaf that was a very fine poem!
Very gentle and lovely Mish!
OMG your words are so gorgeously put together
Happy Monday
