Strings Attached

Posted on

I look at a Facebook photo of a baby sleeping on the indentation of a guitar as his young father strums it quietly. I remember playing the guitar against my protruding belly when I was pregnant for each of my sons. More than sound, this was a bonding between two worlds, still unknown to each other. Love flowed through layers of skin and muscle with every note, every lyric carefully crafted from the wonder, anticipation and unity. This was and is my poetic hum.  I ponder the picture again, slightly worried about this tiny bundle nestled rather precariously in the crook of a wooden instrument. Could she slip off? Possibly…but only into loving arms.

love moves beyond walls

love is a constant murmur

love never silent

Not Until Nightfall

Posted on

Daydreams are only murmurs

Moments wasted

Wishes tossed and scattered

Do they ever really matter?

In the gloaming, my thoughts echo

Meticulous musing

Repetitive rants

This, my evening dance

Nightfall stars my skies in words

I pluck them one by one, as they become

My constellations, revelations

These are my epiphanies

~

We put ink to paper

A slow release of demons

Taking up valuable space

Indigo tears dripping

As loud as rain on tin

Echoing with validation

Heart and soul precipitation

We are deafened

By our own definitions

Of tragedy and defeat

Blinded by the sandstorms

We carelessly create

Still we reach for the reservoir

Spellbound by the flow

Of this cursive dance

We put ink to paper

~

Another one for dVerse. It’s been a great week. As a poetic prompt, we were asked to choose a line from one of two poems by Brian Miller or Claudia Schonfeld. The line I chose was “we put ink to paper” in Claudia’s poem. You can check them both out at dVerse Poet’s Pub.

Diaries and tiny keys

Opened doors

To thoughts unspoken

Indigo blurred

By rainy blue eyes

My full heart emptied

To fill blank pages

Lyrics and chords

Strumming tales

Of the deep and the dark

Words and voice

United in song

My full heart aching

To fill open spaces

Pain and torment

Tapping keys

In a candle lit corner

Creative crescendo

Boundless and beautiful

My healing heart open

To infinite places

A big thank you to “Loony” at Thoughts of a Lunatic  for the opportunity to guest post on her amazing blog.

“Loony” is an extraordinary writer. A four time Freshly Pressed recipient, her blog has taken her followers on a journey through pain, joy, reflections, growth, humor, and love.  She tells it like it is.  She will make you laugh with her very unique humor and take you to tears with her honesty and bravery which are undeniable. I admire her more than I can express.

“Thoughts of a Lunatic” asked readers for their take on New Year’s resolutions.

“Marble Rye and Resolutions”  is my contribution.

Hope you enjoy.

Clinging to Words

I have to write

The fingers hit the keys

Eyes on the ceiling

Heart in my hand

Pumping

Beating out the rhythm

Of a song that only I know

But somehow you sing to it

Find some kind of meaning to it

That represents your life

And validates your strife

I have to write

Phrasing what I’m feeling

Truth in disguise

Haven for narration

Flowing

Growing like a reed

To save myself from drowning

From the demons I’ve created

In the words articulated

I will hold on

And continue this song

I have to write…
