She spoke in scars

Bitterness of broken heart

Sailing with the undertows

Salty sting of ocean tears

Refreshing her pain

There was safety there

Reeling to the beat of

“It’s- not- my- fault”

Making peace with the fog

So she didn’t have to see

Sunlight beckoned but

She reveled in the rain clouds

Trading rainbows for permafrost

Frozen, hard fast in the loss

In time, she’d rewind in the wind

Dust off the grudge and wrath

Wipe the mist from the mirror

To see more than lines on her face

More than the misery of this place

Cue the music

And dance wildly to the light

I am hosting Poetics at dVerse Poets Pub. We are writing to “Life Lessons”. “What is one thing (or more) that you have learned that you feel could change another life? Well at least improve it.” Please share with us in a poem. There is still time to join in.

50 Things I’ve Learned in 50 Years…#28

Posted on

“Jealousy and bitterness will hold you back from truly living your life.

Let it go.”

I’m sure the Frozen song is playing in your head right now, whether you like it or not. Sorry for that.

Oh jealousy and bitterness…such powerful emotions that have absolutely no use.

When I think of times that I felt jealous of someone or something that someone had, I have no memories of ambition or accomplishment from those situations. No one came around with a magic wand and gave me what I envied and I certainly didn’t end up being just like them. So…what was the point of all the misery?

I remember bitterness…serious, intense bitterness. I remember it becoming an entity of its own. I lost myself in it so deeply that I didn’t find myself again for 15 years. Was the bitterness justified? Well hell yes! I didn’t deserve this treatment and this bitterness was my weapon. I owned it. Oh yeah. The problem was that this weapon was aimed at me. It took me a long time to see the end of the barrel, but I did.  I hope you don’t take as long.

Let it go! Let it go!

Oh c’mon. Sing it.

Set yourself free.

Heart like a kick drum solo
Surely they can hear it
Against pin dropping silence
Waiting for my name..my name
The R’s, here we go
Oh no
Stomach churning, wheels turning
“Here”
Static percussion, blurred
Am I here?
I don’t want to be here
I hate the first day of school

Heart on my sleeve
Some take it, some leave it but
I’m against pin dropping silence
Rise up, be heard
Here we go, let’s go
No no
Won’t fake it, I will make it
“Here”
Mind enlightened,
Here is all we have
Savoring each breath
Loving each day of life

“Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.

~Omar Khayyam~

__________________________________________________________________________

This is my final post for the “3 Days 3 Quotes Challenge”.

Thank you to unexpectedincommonhours. Check out her blog!

I enjoyed the challenge, as it wasn’t overly time consuming and gave me a chance to use some favourite photos I had stored in my archives.  Since many do not wish to take part in these challenges, I have decided to open this up a bit.

My nominees are:

1. A blogger who would like to post 3 quotes.

2.  A blogger who would like to post their own 3 quotes.

3.  A blogger who would like to post 3 quotes with their own photography.

If one of these speaks to you,  I look forward to your response!

Have fun!!!

Even clarity is a journey

There are no seconds sweet enough

To freeze for future use

You desperately hold on

To every crystal clear moment

Before watching them free fall

Like droplets reflecting your soul

Destined to the mulch

Of victories and blunders

Enriching your past

To the roots you stand on

This ground you dance on

So decorated

With all that you are

Life is like hide and seek

Burying your faults under fuzzy blankets

Searching for truths and treasures

In dark alleys of your mind

Before lights fade and you are called home

Ready or not here we come

But we are not searching

Until we look into a baby’s eyes

And find the sea

You are not playing this game

It plays you

Until you realize

The hourglass is nothing but sand

To sift between your fingers

And toss into the wind

You have already won

When you stand silent on the mesa

Sunlight blessing your face

Tracing the shadows of the eagle’s talons

Looking over this canyon

You know

You know that you are

In that one place

That grabs you

By the corners of your mouth

And lifts you up

Elated for the moment

Enlightened forever

50 Things I’ve Learned in 50 Years…#25

“Strength can be silent.”

W7509

This one is still very hard for me…another lesson in progress.

Why?

My shyness crippled me when I was a child, a teenager and even into my twenties.

It took me a long time to grow “a voice”.  It took me a long time to be confident about my own opinions and a longer time to not care what others think of them. I find it very hard to be silent in a situation that is harmful to others. I want to fix things. I enjoy making a case. I enjoy writing a letter of complaint. (Can you get paid for that?) I am actually pretty darn good at it. Speaking up for something that I strongly believe in?  My cup of tea.

Despite this, I am learning that sometimes I just need to listen…even if it means listening to the silence. Sometimes the silence says that I am saying too much, that maybe I am over compensating for my own inadequacies or maybe I am speaking on the behalf of others, when they haven’t given me the floor.

Sometimes…I just need to be quiet shut up!

Strength is not always about raising your voice. Sometimes it is about restraining yourself from doing just that.

It becomes monotonous

Like picking up sticks in the yard

Leaves falling

Right in front of you

Disintegrating dreams

Lie dormant in the compost

You turn them over

Break them down

Doubt their purpose

Throw them back into the dirt

Not even noticing

That this is your soil

The soil that you toil

To plant yourself once again

I sit here writing

About the possibilities

The sun setting on the horizon

As if it is so far away

Thinking I have to reach

Dreaming about dreams

When all I have to do

Is believe

That rainbows exist

The earth meets the sky

Thoughts merge with reality

And change is not work

Change is just catching up

To the truth

Do we listen

When silence speaks

In Mother Nature’s tongue

Let it drown out the technosaurus

Stomping loudly on anything

More than a day old

Time will soon be tired

Of being archived by the minute

But nothing can stop the wind

From carving out canyons

Or the sun

From casting shadows

Where no one even looks

                      ~

Do we sense

The softness of the breeze

She whispers on our skin

Caressing with only one purpose

To touch us… so we feel

Or have we forgotten

More than we know

Reality will soon be tired

Of hiding beneath the light

Of the machines we type on

The media we thrive on

The “friends” we depend upon

In this mechanical mess we call life

From the Shadows

I had no wings

Until I soared high

Over the desert

Faith under feathers

Suspended above

Corroding platforms

Of jagged words

Spellbound by what was

And what could be

             ~

I had no voice

Until the silence screamed

Above the sound

Of my own heartbeat

Exploding

Into a million

Tiny fragments

Of fear, recycled

               ~

I had no hope

Until it was buried

In early graves

Defective dreams

Petrified particles

Of all that I knew

For in this soil, this pain

Sifted and sorted,

I grew

In dVerse Poet’s Pub, MarinaSofia inspired us to answer questions of our own identity.

1) Who are you and whom do you love?

2) What else are you, that no one has seen before?

3) Describe a morning you woke without fear.

4) What lingers when all is said and done?

Life’s Door

scan0003

Colour draws me in

Lifting my heart to the sky

Through turquoise dreams

And flying machines

Luring me gently to the clouds

Over the rainbow

And back again

I only need to open

This door of hope

Yellow like the sun

Decorated with doves and lace

To remind me of grandmothers’ doilies

And simpler times

I only need to open

This door of endless possibilities

One hand gripping and turning

One heart open and learning

One life in front of me

Inside of me

Around me

I only need to open

This door of life

To find my rainbow

drum

In the wakefulness of now

Listen and you will hear

Hearts beating

To the sound of original grace

Souls strumming on strings

Of merciful melodies

Faintly tapping out the truth

Orchestrating the score

Of the conductor, the Creator

Heed to this rhapsody of love

Humming softly through the clatter

Drumming gently without fail

Steady as time, resistant to mind

Find harmony within

Where good intentions lie dormant

Under clogged and corrupted arteries

Like a child, improvise

Sing this song of life

You can be part of the flow
The current that carries
So many souls in transit
Searching for truth
Sailing for certainty
Or you can finally let go
Abandon this ship
This mere mission of clarity

For life is not a search
Life is the water
The waves caressing the rock
The ripples of rhythm
Keeping time with your heart
The sun on your face
Warming your skin
In this very moment

Simplicity

NM October 2011 065

We reach towards the sun

To feel the warmth

Nurturing our souls

Soothing our minds

Millions of miles away

When only millimeters from our hands

Placed on our chest

We can feel the life, the blood

The beating of our own sun

A gift more precious than we can comprehend

For hearts so pure and strong

Are victims to minds so tangled

Hearts so fearless and free

Become chained by selfishness

We reach towards the sun

To find simplicity

#17. “If you think about where a person is coming from, what they’ve been through in their life, how they’ve been raised, you will find it easier to forgive, understand and accept that they don’t and may never look at things the same way that you do.”

This one is golden.

Do you want to be empowered? Free yourself from the frustration? Save some time and energy?

Ok, now I sound like an advertisement.

The truth is…

When this little light bulb of enlightenment switched on in my brain, it changed my life.

Click.

Not everyone was blessed with a loving beginning. They are what they came from. They may not be able to see or feel more than that. Not everyone has sailed a calm sea without drowning in pain or suffering…and some are still drowning. Some have a point to make, an axe to grind or a need to be heard. Some people can only feel better by making others feel worse.

Some people will not change. Some people don’t need to change…not for you.

Sometimes you have to rearrange your thoughts, open your mind and accept.

Let them be who they are.  Let it be what it is.

A huge burden can be lifted when you do.

Neon sun

Ignite my sky

Radiate my soul

Illuminate my heart

Set my mind ablaze

With brilliant words

To detail your dazzle

And rave of your radiance

For I have none

That give justice to

This smoldering wonder

This fire before me
