Clouds speak in silhouettes

Embellished by the gift of light

Sunbeams stretch to infinity

Trees soak in the serenity

When sapphire skies mimic

More than a glimmer of hope

i am the blue of nature
the orange of a sunrise
purple clouds at sunset
the crisp red of autumn
yellow sunflower petals
i am tumbled, jumbled
pieces – a kaleidoscope
ever changing, shifting,
being recreated

Writing 201 – Day 4

September 2015 015

No ideal life can be attained

The sun will shine above the rain

Let’s not be critical

Flaws are mystical

Perfection can be mundane

Imperfection is our prompt for this assignment that involved writing a limerick. It also gave me the opportunity to use this photo I took at a beautiful park in Ontario.

 love

Her skin spoke in calligraphy, generic quotes of life and strength. She resented only one of them. Her freckles now faded, perhaps jaded by the intrusion of ink. Freckles are for kids, she thought, like tricks and treats and happier times. Her hands were covered in truth, fitting loosely over knuckles. This is where her stories were told of aging and waging wars with the world. Touching her face she felt the wind that whittled fine lines on canvass. She heard the words that chiseled deeper. She remembered the sun warming her soul, leaving golden hues on arms and legs. Slowly she traced the scar on her left wrist, caressing it back and forth as if to heal the pain that still remained. Her skin spoke of all she was.

Written for Writing 201 at The Daily Post where we were prompted to write about “skin”in the form of prose as well as adding some internal rhyme.

Hands out, eyes closed

Ugliness tied with a bow

Saccharin sweet and simulated

Here lie the ashes of integrity

Mincing words and morals

Over coffee and character

Never did you think

Ethics would be worth

Your weight in gold

Written for Writing 201 at The Daily Post. The word prompt was “gift” although this is a darker interpretation. I also accepted the challenge of writing it as an “acrostic” poem.

Linking this up for Open Link Night at dVerse.

Thank you to unexpectedincommonhours. Check out her blog!

2.  A blogger who would like to post their own 3 quotes.

3.  A blogger who would like to post 3 quotes with their own photography.

My 2AM

My two a.m. is a darkened cocoon

Where the words and I transform

I am swaddled by the freedom

En-kindled by the darkness

As the keyboard tap dances

Under the moonlight of the monitor

My two a.m. is a borderline I dare to cross

Where night mingles with the day

Random thoughts come out to play

I sit on the edge of my eyelids

Holding them up to the light

And I peacefully fight

Because the winner is always me

Slumber or finished piece

We are incorporating “2 a.m.” into a poem for dVerse this week.

For the Love of Dogs and Blogs

Posted on

Three years ago today, I published my first post on Word Press. This journey of writing, sharing photographs, reading, learning and connecting with others has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Thank you to all of you who take the time to read, comment and interact.

Moon gazing was written as I was grieving the loss of our dog. Since then, it has been difficult to look at photos of “Barley”. I avoid things that hurt. I avoid things I cannot fix.

Barley wasn’t just a pet. He was my friend.  So on this blogging anniversary, I thought it would be nice to pay tribute to my first inspiration to write. One miniature wire haired wiener dog that blessed my life and made me laugh every single day for seventeen years. It is time to look into his ragamuffin face again and say hello.

Hello, my long lost little buddy. I will always miss you and love you.

April 7 041

At fourteen, he still had a spring in his step.

Purebred…but he preferred the Rastafarian look.

The sunlight was too bright for his weary eyes, hence the little wool cap. Still cute as a button in his golden years.

This Poetry Thing

dandelions

Let’s decorate the trees with words

The sky with all we feel

Wrap the clouds in

Ribbons of rhyme

No time to waste

This party must go on

Fill my glass with rambled thoughts

And grenadine

Slightly blended please

No distinction or lines

Interpretations are never defined

Inhibitions,  like confetti

Thrown carelessly into the wind

And we’ll laugh….

Because we know

This poetry thing is nothing more

Than everything we are and see

Know and live

Loved and lost

Perceive and paint

From the pallets of our soul

                             ~

Let’s dance along the moonlit path

Where neurons sparkle endlessly

Lighting the way for

Our wandering minds

To now and then

And why and when

We’ll rig a jig  jig

Stepping to the beat

Of our hearts

Open and wounded

Flowing or frozen

In time

And we’ll laugh….

Because we know

This poetry thing is how we breathe

Or catch our breath

Between the gales that be

Dogmatically chanting

Secretly ranting

A slow release of our minds

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections

turtle reflection

Beauty is forsaken
Where no one sees
No one ventures
No one feels
Silence speaks
But no one listens
It’s too easy, too authentic
Pure and transparent
You wouldn’t look for yourself
In the mirror, would you?
Then why would you search for life
When it is there in front of you
Calling your name
Caressing your soul
Nurturing your body
Balancing your burdens
Blessing your every moment
Reflecting your heart
With the most radiant light of all
Did you know
That you are nature?

I am dedicating this post to tyler4turtles, a fellow blogger, a friend in nature and kindred spirit. His expertise, dedication and endless fascination with nature combined with his gift of poetry and photography make for the most amazing blog.

A four time Freshly Pressed recipient, her blog has taken her followers on a journey through pain, joy, reflections, growth, humor, and love.  She tells it like it is.  She will make you laugh with her very unique humor and take you to tears with her honesty and bravery which are undeniable. Best Moments

“The best moments are not filled, they are felt.

They have a life of their own.

Sit back and take one in.”

Dflorack of Heron There & Everywhere nominated me for a Best Moment Award.

This is my very belated acceptance! Thank you, Donna!

If you take the time to visit her blog, you will discover her love for friendly little critters as well as musings on life and memoirs of the past.

http://heronthereeverywhere.us/

This award requires you to state seven things about yourself, so here goes…

1.  I have just added para-sailing to my bucket list!

2.  I am not a good conversationalist with new people, unless the topic is an issue I feel strongly about… then I might not shut up.

3.   It frustrates me when parents feed their children inappropriate media and then wonder why they become so disrespectful, aggressive, violent or insensitive.

4.  I believe we were put on this earth to help those in need, not to sit back and reap our own benefits.

5.  My complicated personality takes me from serene places of nature to head banging to Metallica.

6.  I love to see the sparkle in a child’s eyes. It lights up my world.

7.  I am happiest when I am singing at the top of my lungs, driving down the highway.

first-best-moment-award-winner

Let’s change this up a bit.  Seven is a lucky number so I have decided to nominate seven bloggers that have given me

a

BEST MOMENT!

http://brokenlightcollective.wordpress.com/

It is inspiring to me to see stigmas broken surrounding mental health issues. This wonderful site provides many moments of sharing knowledge, hope and understanding through the art of photography.

http://bernasvibethewayiseeit.wordpress.com/

She can relate to entering the “50” zone and her generous comments have given me moments of laughter and camaraderie.

http://sunearthsky.com/

Today she provided me with a moment of beauty as I admired her breathtaking photos of horses.

http://kaynicolley.wordpress.com/

She gave me a moment of her reality. It is a reality that so many suffer from. Please give her some love and encouragement.

http://melissammendoza7.wordpress.com/

Working in a shelter in Sante Fe, New Mexico, this woman has her share of dark moments but has the ability to see the light within their souls. I look forward to following her new blog.

http://barefootandmusic.wordpress.com/

I absolutely love Beth Hart. I could listen to her music every day. While doing a search today for her video, “Leave the Light On”, I stumbled upon this blog. There are great musical moments to be found here.

Unique moments including those she has spent raising an orphaned fawn on their property.

She Needs Your Help

Posted on

July 2013 001

Last week, I had to find a way to provide a family member with all the basic essentials of life. She had nothing but a bed, a couch and a few personal belongings. It is a very long story that I will not tell except to say that her situation is of no fault of her own and I would not wish it upon anyone. Helping her was a necessity. It reminded me of how blessed I am to have a roof over my head and food to eat. It reminded me of others who are in similar situations of desperation as my family member. It reminded me of Cheryl, a fellow blogger who just needs a job to turn things around. Sounds easy, but it isn’t.

I know I have stood on this soap box a few times already, but it’s my soap box. You can simply turn the page if you wish…

We are not all given the same opportunities.

We are not all blessed with families that are willing or able to help us.

We are not all blessed with healthy bodies or healthy minds.

We are not all blessed with minimal disasters that fall upon us.

We are not all fortunate to succeed from our hard work. Some work harder than us and get half as far.

We are not all able to work.

Some of us struggle every day just to eat, pay a bill, keep our sanity or find even one small fragment of hope to carry on.

I am asking that you really think about how you will be inconvenienced if you were to give a small amount to someone who is at risk of losing their home. If I can leave myself short to reach out to another, then believe me…so can you.

When you truly give, you look into your heart, not your bank book.

I hope you will look into your heart to help my fellow blogger and friend.
