“I am doing this because you adults are shitting on my future.”

“I don’t want you to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act.”

– Greta Thunberg –

( Youth Climate Activist)

Does it take a child to save the world?

Or do we just wait for the big miracle

While earth stands stoic

In a silent sob of glacier tears?

Oceans choke on the overflow

Poli-puppeticians choke on their lies

We could die!

Yet we leave the mission to our young

While we sip the last grape

Feel sorry for the last polar bear

Stranded on the last slice of sea ice

In response to Anmol’s very thoughtful poetic prompt, “On Climate Crisis”.

  1. That silent sob is great. Such direct images, such a clear voice and message. We are all too comfortable, and far too smug.

  2. This is a very moving write Mish. Well done! Sadly, we will have to depend on the children to take the reins — as soon as the “evil” among my generation are dead and gone. I was a hippie musician and sound & video reinforcement designer – and an activist through high school, college, and beyond, during my generation of the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s. There were many of us. I and my friends lived a life of low carbon footprint as did my company, and personally also worked for George Lucas, in Lucasfilm LTD, also an eco-conscious company. Those of us among my generation who cared, thought we had finally won the long battle to restore and further protect the ecology, when we successfully got Obama into office, and he began the long hard work of establishing serious environmental regulations. We who cared, felt this good environmental work would continue and increase with Hilary or Bernie. We got blindsided when the Republican Party, comprised of the truly unconscionable asshats of our generation, got the Trumpinator and his band of pillaging & looting morons into office. He and they have already undone all the positive environmental work that Obama got painstakingly pushed through in his 8 years. The good among our generation of 60, 70, and 80 year olds have been now dealt out, and shoved aside at the moment, by this country’s prevailing atmosphere of hate and fear. So unless Trump and his seething tribe of idiots, can somehow be eliminated in this next election, it will unfortunately fall on the younger generation to clean up this mess we’ve made — and that is incredibly unfair! But it will be necessary, because the MINDLESS ORANGE HERD are only going to continue making it worse.

  3. AH, you say all that we need to acknowledge with such brevity — the images are stark and yet so necessary. What miracle would it take to save us? I wonder.

  4. Very well said Mish. And what a shame that we all need to be reminded by a young child.

  5. Wow, Mish! This is so powerful. These words say it all. Bravo!!

  6. It seems that those in power are content to cash checks knowing that they’ll be long gone when the bill is due. I understand and relate to the desperate exasperation in the poetic voice here.

  7. wow very gut wrenching .. so well written and such a clear message in so few words … thanks!
I live off grid trying to do as much as I can, we all need to do our utmost 🙂
