My little maple
Of glistening gold
Flaunting, fluttering as
Sol sister laughs
She knows wind is only
Teasing, breezing by for
One last kiss of autumn
The final dance before
The chill and I will
Cherish your leaves
As fall still breathes
Through winter
It’s Quadrille time again and we’d love for you to join us over at dVerse Poets Pub. As your host, I am asking you to write a poem of 44 words (not including the title) and your quadrille must contain the word…
b…r…e…a…t…h…e
or breath, breathtaking, breathable…any variation of the word
Doors open at 3 p.m. EST
Oh I love the stillness you are giving me through your gentle words.
Thank you…my maple tree spoke to me.
One last kiss and one final dance, very true ….we got icy wind and winter flurries last night ~
I will cherish all my autumn photos, smiles ~
Thanks for hosting Mish ~
I enjoyed the opportunity to do the quadrille prompt.
Those photos will be all we have soon! My little maple tree lost all it’s leaves almost overnight.
You have an autumn theme and autumn colours in your photograph too! Love the prompt, Mish and your ‘little maple of glistening gold’! Sadly, our copper beech has lost all its leaves now. I love those lines:
‘She knows wind is only
Teasing, breezing by for
One last kiss of autumn’
Thanks, Kim. 🙂 My little maple lost all it’s leaves in one big windy blast shortly after I wrote this.
I think maple and copper beech leaves have a similar shape but different colours. I think we had one or two still hanging until last week and then they too were gone. It feels sad but we know that they’ll be back in spring!
I love the quietness of this poem. One last kiss of autumn….sigh. What a lovely line this is. Thank you for this wonderful prompt!
Aww thanks, Toni. Glad you liked it. 🙂
This is beautiful! I have not always been a fan of fall, because winter is usually too close on its heels. But your poem reminded me that sometimes fall continues to breathe and its leaves hang on longer than usual. This is one of those years in my neck of the woods.
Thanks so much, Linda. Our fall has been a little strange as well, with leaves holding on with our first snow.
Lovely echo of Autumn as she waves a dieu.
Thank you, Paul. 🙂
There is a maple outside our kitchen window. It is very beautiful in the autumn with its reddish leaves–actually it is beautiful all year round. Nice poem.
Yes, that’s what I love about them. Thanks for your comments.:)
Beautiful. You captured my favorite season perfectly.
Thank you…it’s my favourite season as well.
My favorite season as well. I love the gentility of this, Michelle!
Glad you liked it, Walt. Thanks again for your amazing musical quadrille contribution. 🙂
At least I can read about the golden leaves you wrote about. Our trees here have not begun to turn yellow yet. We did have a very short freeze the other morning, so it did feel like fall for that day. 🙂
Happy to share my little tree with you. It is now sadly bare.
Thanks for your comment, barbara.
I loved this. Like a love letter to the autumn season.
What a lovely comment! Thank you.
“Fall still breathes through winter”- in quiet moments it lingers I think..
Yes, it’s there in little whispers. 🙂
I love the internal rhyme you’ve used here.
Thanks, De! 🙂
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous write! ❤️
Thank you, Sanaa.
As fall still breathes
Through winter
It need not be forgotten that easily. The golden brown is certainly long to be cherished!
Hank
A few leaves are hanging on, Hank.
Thanks 🙂
This so beautiful Mish and I love ‘I will Cherish your leaves As fall still breathes
Through winter’ :o)
Thank you, Xenia. 🙂
You are very welcome 💜
I really like the theme of breath carried through Sol laughing, the breeze blowing and the trees breathing on last time before the chill breaths frost.
Thank you, Brian
Such a calming and peaceful tone to this lovely poem.
I appreciate that observation, Misky. I dug deep for the calm when I wrote this…wasn’t sure if I had found it.
You found it. It’s lovely.
Beautiful imagery!
Thank you very much, Teresa.:)
Absolutely exquisite response to your wonderful prompt, Mish. The blending of the seasons–strongly symbolic as I see it.
Oh Victoria, thank you! It is that resistance to change….in seasons and in life.

lovely song of autumn even if it does lead into winter.

Oh the warm whispers! Love this!
I appreciate your comment, Barry. Thanks! 🙂
Delectable word-play.
Glad you liked it. Thank you. 🙂
Love the word play on Sol sister 🙂
Thank you, Bryan.
A very calm…beautiful image in wonderful words!
A sweet comment. Thank you, sree.
Through your words, I watch leaves dance with the wind again. Only a few stragglers remain on the trees here now, so your images are quite special. 🙂
Same here! I’m glad the little tree inspired me before it went bare. 🙂
Sol sister – that’s brilliant Mish.
🙂 Thanks, Candy.
Beautiful. I can feel the crisp golden colors in this.
